HOCKEY SCHOLARSHIPS

BC Hockey annually awards scholarships to deserving recipients who are in their graduating year of high school and are presently registered members of BC Hockey or former members playing in the Western Hockey League.



QUALIFICATIONS
1. Academic achievement
2. Sportsmanship 
3. Hockey participation and/or quality of contribution 
4. School, community participation and service

HOW TO APPLY
1. Applications available at www.bchockey.net/awards/scholarships.aspx
2. Name of association, league, team or category
3. Letter from applicant’s hockey coach or referee in chief 
4. Letter from applicant’s league or association president 
5. Copy of school transcript and 2nd semester first term report card with a letter from Principal (use reference letter request form from Central's website)


DEADLINE: April 30, 2011.

BURNABY OPTIMIST CLUB AWARD

The Burnaby Optimist Club will award up to 3 $500 post secondary education scholarship to students graduating from Burnaby Secondary Schools in June 2011.


CRITERIA:
  • demonstrated, continued volunteer activities within their high school and in their community

UBC SCHOLARSHIP MEETING TOMORROW AT LUNCH!

ALL GRADS WANTING TO ATTEND UBC IN THE FALL SHOULD ATTEND AN IMPORTANT MEETING TUESDAY, JANUARY 18TH @ Lunch in Room 200!

BURNABY SPORTS HALL OF FAME SCHOLARSHIP

The Hall would like to encourage future excellence in athletics, academics and sportsmanship in Burnaby by offering a $1000 scholarship to a male athlete and female athlete. 


Eligibility requirements:

  • A resident of Burnaby for the past 3 years
  • Future plans to attend a post-secondary institution on a fulltime basis
  • Show evidence of high athletic ability and performance
  • Maintain a minimum of C+ average ( send copy of transcript)
  • Demonstrate Leadership
  • Be active in school and community

Rotary Club of Burnaby- Adventures in Citizenship Conference

Thank you to all the students who put their name forward for the Rotary Club Of BurnabyAdventures in Citizenship Conference. One student from each Burnaby Secondary School is nominated and one student out of the eight will attend the conference. The selection will be made on the basis of an interview conducted by members of the Rotary Club of Burnaby. All students who complete the interview process will be the recipients of the Rotary Club of Burnaby Scholarship. Burnaby Central will be nominating Iman Fouad-Farah. Congratulations Iman!

2011 TOYOTA EARTH DAY SCHOLARSHIP

This is an exciting opportunity for Grads to earn a $5000 entrance scholarship towards their post-secondary education in any field of their choice. Candidates must have achieved excellence in academic and extracurricular activities, and demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the environment. A national winner will also receive a Panasonic notebook computer and a National Award. DEADLINE: January 31


$2000 BC GOVERNMENT & SERVICE EMPLOYEES' UNION SCHOLARSHIP
Do you know someone in your family who is a member of the BCGE Union? If so, you could be eligible for a $1000 or $2000 scholarship! You must have a C average or better. Applications at www.bcgeu.ca/member_resources_scholar

$500 STEVE COWAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

$10,000 FOR GRADS INTERESTED IN ENGINEERING!

It is short notice but if you can find some time to apply you could receive $10,000! Check out the following website www.scholarshipscanada.com for more information on the Vale Inco Undergraduate Engineering  Scholarship. The deadline is soon approaching JANUARY 21!

$50,000 GARFIELD WESTON AWARD

Attention all grads going to college (BCIT, DOUGLAS, EMILY CARR, LANGARA etc.) to pursue a diploma or applied degree! This is the scholarship for you! The National award is valued at up to $50,000, including a waiver, an $8000 annual stipend and summer opportunities. Up to 25 awards are available!

 SELECTION CRITERIA
Entrance W. Garfield Weston Awards recognize and reward the outstanding college-bound student who is:
  • passionate about his or her field of study;
  • curious, courageous, and willing to try new things; &
  • community-minded and truly interested in becoming involved and making a difference in society.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for an Entrance W. Garfield Weston Award, a student must:
  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • have completed or be presently completing secondary school diploma/credentials 
  • be entering his or her first-year of full-time college studies in the fall of 2011 leading to a diploma or applied degree (university transfer programs, and pre-university DEC studies are not eligible) in a program recognized as eligible by the college and the W. Garfield Weston Awards;
  • be entering full-time college studies of at least 16 months in duration with a 100% full-time course load; &
  • have a minimum average of 75% in courses required for his or her college program of choice.

BCIC YOUNG INNOVATOR SCHOLARSHIP

Hey Grads,

Now is the time to start applying for scholarships! You have nothing to lose and only free money for your education to gain! So start applying, GRAD is only 6 months away!

BCIC YOUNG INNOVATOR SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
BCIC is offering $2000 to students who will be entering one of the following areas sciences, technology development, engineering, mathematics, digital- arts, media, and/or design or business entrepreneurship at a BC post secondary school.

The scholarship is awarded through two methods:
The Idea Mash Up:



  • Challenges students to create an idea for a new technology by mashing together two or more current technologies or things e.g. web + log = blog, snow + surfboard = snowboard etc.
  • Proposals must describe the innovation, the process for how the student came up with it, and the use of the innovation
  • Team must present their Idea MashUps
  • Need 10 participants/school or can partner with another school if you don't Composehave 10 participants
  • Ask your favourite teacher to sponsor your team- $750 will be given to the school to support an Idea mashUp competition
Science Fair :
  • Is a competition between students (grade 11 and or 12) who create original scientific research or innovative projects. 
  • Ask your science teacher to sponsor one- $750 will be given to the school to support a fair.

BC Association of Health-Care Auxiliaries Scholarship/Bursary

Do you volunteer in a health related facility and are planning to enter the field of health care? Then this is the scholarship/bursary is for you! This Scholarship is worth $1000 and is awarded to a BC student enrolling in 1st year studies in a human health care field e.g. nursing, physiotherapy, sports medicine etc. at an accredited Canadian Post Secondary institution.
