$7000 DOUGLAS COLLEGE ENTRANCE AWARD

Entrance awards are given to outstanding students entering a full-time Douglas College credential program. The following scholarships and bursaries are available:

CJP Architects Scholarship
CJP Architects, and the partners involved in the firm, established this fund as part of the inauguration of the Thomas Haney Campus in Maple Ridge. Preference is given to students residing in Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows. A minimum 3.5 GPA is required.


Coquitlam 1991 BC Summer Games Award
This fund was created as part of the legacy provided by the 1991 BC Summer Games, held in Coquitlam. The award is available to a graduate of Centennial High School, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all grade 11 and 12 courses (a high school transcript must be attached to the application). There should be evidence (a letter of recommendation) of involvement in school or community athletic activities.


Dr. Gordon L. Diewert Dry Grad Scholarship
This annual scholarship was established by Susan Diewert Kwong and Peter Kwong in memory of Susan's late husband, Dr. Gordon L. Diewert, who was tragically killed at the age of 30, when an impaired driver collided with his vehicle on April 28, 1981. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize students who have demonstrated a commitment to the fight against drunk driving in their community by volunteering in the organization of their high school¿s Dry Grad Ceremony or related activities. Recipients must provide a letter of reference from a representative on their high school's Dry Grad Committee outlining their participation in the planning and/or organization of the dry grad event or activities. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum GPA of 3.50 who will be entering into a minimum of 12 credits.


Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration Entrance Scholarship
Established in 2001 by the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration from the Faculty productivity incentive fund and international consulting projects. This scholarship is available to students entering the Douglas College Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration directly from secondary schools in the College region (Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows). Students must enrol in a minimum of four courses totaling at least 12 credits each semester. Exceptions to this rule may occur with full-time programs that may be designed to have fewer than four courses in a term.


Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited Entrance Award
The purpose of this annual fund is to provide an entrance award to individuals entering any full-time program of study at Douglas College. The intended recipient must demonstrate financial need; be a Canadian citizen or have been granted permanent residence in Canada; have been accepted into (and must ultimately attend) the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree program with a scheduled duration not longer than four years; have achieved an average of at least 75% in the recipient¿s graduating year (which must have terminated not later than 18 months prior to the beginning of the academic year) at a Canadian secondary school or CEGEP; and not have previously received a Fairfax award.


Garfield Weston Merit Scholarship for Colleges
The Garfield Weston Merit Scholarship for Colleges is a scholarship program designed to identify, recognize and reward students who demonstrate character, leadership and commitment to their community. National award winners receive a scholarship worth up to $12,000 per year (renewable). This includes a tuition waiver funded by the student's college. The award is administered by the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation. Information and application forms are available on-line at

President's Entrance Scholarships
Eight scholarships per year are offered to students entering Douglas College directly from high schools in Metro Vancouver. Candidates must have a GPA of 3.5 or better (81.5 percent average in high school) and make significant contributions to school or community activities. The scholarship will be valued at tuition fees for the program year and may be renewed for a second year. Applicants should be nominated by the school and the school Principal.


Royal Visit 1983 Scholarship
The City of New Westminster established this scholarship fund to commemorate the 1983 Royal Visit to New Westminster. Candidates must have graduated from a high school in the Douglas College region (Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows), have good academic standing and be active in school or community activities.


United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters, Local 170 Entrance Scholarships
Two $300 scholarships are offered annually to secondary school graduates entering first-year of any community college in BC directly from high school. Applicants must be sons, daughters or legal dependents of a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 170.

Vancouver Municipal, Education and Community Workers Society/CUPE Local 15/VMECW Dependent's Bursary
A bursary has been established by CUPE Local 15/VMECW to a maximum of $1000 of tuition only. The award is open to sons, daughters and legal dependents of members, who at the time of application are either current members in good standing of the Union or retired members.

$500 Grace Family Network Foundation Scholarship

Grace Family Network Foundation has established a scholarship fund to award to deserving high school graduates in financial need. The awards are intended to encourage students who are pursuing a post-secondary education and who have demonstrated not only academic achievement but also interest in their communities. Anderson Family Flight Traning Scholarship

This Award may be presented annually to a deserving High School student in British Columbia to assist in completing their Private Pilot’s License.  The student will have shown an interest in Aviation and will have demonstrated a commitment to complete Private Pilot training.  The application for the Award is to be supported in writing by a PCTIA accredited or registered Flight Training school in British Columbia. The Technology Scholarship
Recognizes outstanding achievement in technology-based learning. The BCSSA and Apple Canada invite BC public school students in grades 6–12 to design a website for a school or community group for an opportunity to receive a scholarship prize of an Apple iPad. Grade 12 Essay Scholarship
Provides financial assistance to BC public school students planning to pursue a teaching career. One scholarship winner will be chosen among finalists from each of the BCSSA's six regional chapters by a committee of educators. The winner will receive $1000, and the five finalists will receive $200 each. In addition to submitting an essay (1000 words maximum), applicants must provide a transcript of grades and two letters of reference attesting to school/community leadership.
The topic for the 2013 Grade 12 Essay Scholarship is "Technology as learning tool - How might schools utilize technology effectively to enhance student learning?"
