BC INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AMBASSADOR SCHOLARHSIP

The awards promote the development of intercultural knowledge and understanding in support of BC’s new education curriculum and contribute to the goals of the 

K-12 Applications

Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for nomination by a school district or independent school, the international student must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Be accepted for first-time entry into a BC public or independent school at the Grade 9, 10, or 11 level for the 2017/2018 school year
  • Be of school age (no older than 19 by June 30, 2017)
  • Be nominated by a BC school district or independent school
  • Hold a valid passport from the People’s Republic of China, Japan or the Republic of Korea

Post-Secondary Institution (PSI) Applications

Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for nomination by a school district, independent school or BC-certified offshore school, the international student must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Be nominated by a BC school district, independent school or BC-certified offshore school
  • Be intending to enter a public post-secondary institution or a degree program at an authorized private degree granting institution in the 2017/18 school year (see the list of eligible institutions)
  • Hold a valid passport from the People’s Republic of China, Japan, or the Republic of Korea
  • Achieve a high academic standard, including English language ability

$1000 YTS SCHOLARSHIP

Youth Transforming society (YTS) is a registered, student-led group based out of Surrey, BC that aims to raise awareness for humanitarian issues and encourage community volunteerism. Founded in 2010, we have since raised $20,000 for various organizations and have helped hundreds of students get involved. For more information about our organization, please visit: 

To further our goal of inspiring volunteerism, we have created the YTS Scholarship for Community Service. This year, YTS will be giving out three $1000 scholarships. Each scholarship will recognize a student’s dedication and commitment to selfless service in the community. We hope to celebrate the achievements of three young individuals who have created positive change in their communities.

Eligibility criteria:
To be considered for this award, the applicant must be:
1. A graduating, grade 12 student attending secondary school within the lower mainland
2. Attending a Canadian post-secondary institution on a full-time basis beginning September 2017.
3. Actively involved in voluntary pursuits of any kind (humanitarian, environmental, etc…)
4. Minimum academic average of 70%

Up to $10000 Michael J Fox Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship

Do you plan to go into the Arts? Then this is the scholarship for you!


Your letter of application must include the following information:


• Confirmation that you are currently enrolled in a visual or performing arts course in a
  Burnaby secondary school.
• Documentation to demonstrate your interest, dedication and aptitude in an arts or in
 multiple arts disciplines, e.g. dance, drama, music, visual art, theatre, script writing,
 stagecraft, directing, media arts.
• A history of your school and/or community involvement (i.e. school productions, student
government, choir member, volunteer work, charity work, service clubs).
• A copy of your secondary school transcript to demonstrate that your grades are high
enough for acceptance to a post-secondary educational institution.
• A statement that indicates your desired post-secondary Degree or Certificate in an Arts
discipline and your Career Goal

AES Engineering Scholarship 
Must be attending a Canadian Post-secondary institution  Students must use whatever medium they choose (e.g. PowerPoint, You Tube video, Prezi, Artwork, Essay, Illustration, Computer Program Community Service Project etc.) to answer these two questions: What does “A Better Tomorrow look like to you?” and How are you currently contributing to “A Better Tomorrow?”

$1000 UNION OF NATIONAL EMPLOYEES SCHOLARSHIP

Since 2013, the Union of National Employees (UNE) is proud to be able to award a scholarship of $1000 to a student in their last year of high school in British Columbia or Yukon who is about to pursue post-secondary education.

Last year, only 2 students in the BC/Yukon Region applied for the bursary; this year, we hope to pique the interest of at least 10 more. We offer the $1000 bursary or each of our ten regions.

The scholarships are designed to highlight union principles, as well as promote the union and the labour movement in a positive way.  The scholarships aim to create awareness of unions within high school and provide financial assistance to worthy students.  We hope that this initiative will encourage youth to become more involved in the union, social justice activities and the labour movement.

LOTUS LIGHT CHARITY SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP


Any Canadian student who is 17 years or older and will be beginning or continuing their studies at a recognized post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis may be eligible to receive the Lotus Light Charity Society (LLCS) Scholarship to assist in those studies.  Applicants will be assessed on scholastic record and community volunteer involvement.


All applications must be submitted via postal mail or drop-off (i.e. no email submissions, no fax submissions), addressed as follows:

  1.  Up-to-date official transcript of grades.

$1000 Howard Legacy Youth Fund and AFABC Youth Bursary

 Adoptive Families Association of BC.  are currently offering the Howard Legacy Youth Fund and the AFABC Youth Bursary are offered once per year at $1,000 each. 

•             The Howard Legacy Youth Fund was established with a donation from Peggy Howard in 2012, and is made available to applicants who are current or former youth in care.

•             AFABC Youth Bursary was established in 2014, with funding from the Adoptive Families Association of BC, and accepts applications from youth who have joined their family by legal adoption.

All approved applications, (completed, meeting all eligibility requirements and submitted on time) will be forwarded for an initial screening process. The strongest applicants will be presented to the selection committee. Bursary applicants can apply for either (or both) AFABC bursary fund, but may only be chosen for one award per year.
