This scholarship recognizes graduating BC public school students who have displayed exemplary communication skills in the service of public organizations.

Criteria:

-Students must have a high academic standing in communication subjects and express an interest in furthering their education in communications

-Students must be graduating from a BC public school in the 2016-2017 school year

-Students must submit a completed application package

$500 Sandra Elaine Scott-Phillips Community Service Award

The late Sandra Elaine Scott-Phillips served on the Board of Directors of the Jamaican/Canadian Cultural Association of BC for 10 years until her passing in August, 2012. Sandra also served on the board of the City of Surrey’s Diversity Advisory Committee. Sandra was the essence of compassion, duty, loyalty and spirituality. She valued community service and involvement. In honour and memory of Mrs. Scott-Phillips, her widower, Mr. Paul Phillips together with the Jamaican/Canadian Cultural Association of BC has established a $500.00 Community Service Award, which will reward a worthy graduating student with an opportunity to assist in the pursuit of their academic dreams. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1. The applicant must be a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
2. The recipient of the award must be a graduating Grade 12 student, residing in the Metro Vancouver area.
3. The applicant must be recommended by an adult who is not a relative (preferably a teacher or principal). 
4. The applicant must submit the application form, together with two letters of reference before the due date.
5. The applicant must provide proof of academic achievement, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (copy of the most recent report card required); 
6. The applicant must provide two letters of reference, one from their community and one from their school.
7. The recipient must provide proof of acceptance at a Canadian University, or College.

$1000 JAMAICAN CANADIAN CULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF BC

In keeping with its mandated vision, JCCABC has established an annual $1,000.00 Scholarship, to reward a worthy British Columbia graduating student with an opportunity to assist in the pursuit of their academic dreams. 

AWARD CRITERIA 

1. The applicant must be Jamaican born or of Jamaican descent (parent(s) or grandparent(s)); 
2. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada; 
3. The applicant must submit an essay 
4. The applicant must provide an up-to-date official transcript of grades, with a minimum GPA of 3.0; 
5. The recipient of the award must be a graduating Grade 12 student, residing in British Columbia; 
6. The recipient must provide proof of acceptance or entry at a post-secondary institution

$1250 DOGWOOD DISTRICT AUTHORITY AWARD

The DDAA rewards graduating students for excellence and continuing their studies in the following Elective Areas:

• Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music)
• Applied Skills (Business Ed, Technology Ed, Culinary Arts and Fashion)
• Physical Activity ( Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, not limited to Physical Education)
• Indigenous Languages and Culture (demonstrated at school or in the community)
• Second Languages (including Aboriginal Languages) 
• Community Service (Volunteer Activity)
• Technical & Trades Training (eg. Carpentry, Automotive, Mechanics, Cook Training)

Eligibility

• must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant)
• must be a BC resident
• must have excelled in one of the six areas listed above
• must be a graduate of the 2017 Graduation Program by August 31 
• must be enrolling in a post secondary program to continue studies in your chosen elective area. (Priority will be given to students who are enrolling in a certificate or diploma post secondary program or technical training institution)
• a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average 
• a minimum of FOUR courses (with exception to Community Service) from their chosen elective area listed above.  One of the four courses may be Work Experience 12A if it is related to your chosen career path.

Eligibility for the Community Service (Volunteer Activity) elective area:

• demonstration of local and global issues and cultural awareness
• courses: one leadership course in grades 11 or 12 plus extensive involvement in student government or school councils plus significant participation and leadership in a service-oriented club 
• community service/volunteer activity hours:  participation in a minimum of 300 hours of community service/volunteer activity over grades 10 through 12 that is beyond classwork and course requirements if one leadership course taken in grade 11 or 12.
• Or 400 hours if community service/volunteer activity over grades 10 through 12 that os neyond classwork and course requirements if no leadership course is taken in grade 11 or 12.
• Service can be undertaken in and/or outside of school.  Work experience hours, if directly related to service-related career that requires post secondary training can be included.  Students must provide evidence of their service in the form of a letter/document outlining dates and hours and a description of duties performed signed by the adult manager or supervisor of the program or organization.  Letter should include full contact information of the manager or supervisor.
• demonstration of good attendance, punctuality, work habits and cooperation.

2) Type all the information in the left-hand column. Don't forget your cell number so I can 
     contact you if I have questions about your application.

3) Type all the information at the top of the right-hand column. 
       e.g. Elective Area:              Applied Skills

4) Type four  grade 11 or 12 courses from your elective area (Work Experience 12A may 
     be included if it relates to your career path) e.g Financial Accounting 11, Financial 
    Accounting 12, Business Computer Applications 11, Work Experience 12A 
  
5) List nine more grade 11 or grade 12 courses. Choose your TOP courses; the courses       which you have the highest marks. 

6) ENTER your letter grades and Final Average %.

7) DO NOT complete the GPA, Other Courses, Overall GPA or Overall Average% section.

8) Print, SIGN and DATE the application and staple the transcript behind the application 
    before you submit to Ms.Morabito.

$500 LUKA GORDIC MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Dedicated to the memory of Luka Gordic a 2014 Burnaby Central graduate. Three awards will be presented to well rounded students who, while maintaining a good academic standing, have demonstrated positive interactions with the school community and have participated in school athletics.
