42- BCPVPA SCHOLARSHIPS

The BC PRINCIPALS' & VICE PRINCIPALS' ASSOCIATION awards 42- $500 scholarships to students graduating and proceeding to a post-secondary institution.  

30 SCHOLARSHIPS - Regional scholarshipswill be awarded to NON MEMBERS
10 SCHOLARSHIPS - MEMBER scholarships will be awarded to sons/daughters of  
                                 BCPVPA members 
2 - SCHOLARSHIPS - for FIRST NATIONS students

CRITERIA
  • Certified copy of the Ministry of Education's Transcript of final grades (mailed to you in August)
  • Proof paid registration at a post-seconday institution
  • Short essay indication leadership roles held in your school & community & your post secondary 
  • 2 Reference letters 1 from a member of the BCPVPA (principal) and 1 additional one.

$1500 ELMER HELM YOUTH FUND AWARDS

The ALEXANDRA FOUNDATION FOR NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSES provides $1500 to deserving students who wish to pursue post secondary training in the artistic, academic or technical field.


CRITERIA: plan to pursue studies in a certificate or degree program at the college or university level and must be significantly involved in their community in a volunteer capacity.

$1000 Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Society

The CICS is offering 2 $1000 scholarships for students who:

1) are of Italian origin i.e. as having at least one parent or grandparent of direct Italian descent
2) are living in a city or municipality within the 21-member GVRD
3) have an academic standing sufficient to qualify for entry into the post-secondary institution of their choice

$1000 Catherine Logan Eddy Scholarship for ESL students

Are you an ESL student? This scholarship recognizes a student graduating from a BC Secondary School who has combined hard work with school and community involvement, and who wishes to further her/his education/training at a post secondary institution in BC.

CRITERIA:
  • Graduate of a BC high school who wishes to attend a post secondary institution to further her/his education or training for a specific type of employment;
  • Demonstrated consistent improvement in academic competence
  • School or community involvement or service to others
  • ESL coursework at the secondary level.

$2500 APEGF Engineering Scholarships

Interested in becoming an engineer? The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Foundation is once again encouraging high school students throughout BC to pursue careers in engineering and geoscience. The Foundation offers a number of Post Secondary Entrance scholarships to graduating high school students entering the UBC, SFU, UVIC,  BCIT AND UNBC that lead to a degree in engineering or geoscience.  Each entrance scholarship is valued at $2,500. They also offer several Post Secondary Transfer Entrance Scholarships valued at $1,000 each for students entering a college/university engineering transfer program in BC. Scholarship selection is based on Grade 12 academics, extracurricular activities, references, financial need, and the student’s written statement outlining reasons for entering the profession.  Applications  available at:

LYNDHURST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ALUMNAE SCHOLARSHIP

Did you go to Lyndhurst Elementary? Then apply for a $500 scholarship. Applicants must: 

- have attended Lyndhurst Elementary School
- be a grade 12 student in Burnaby
- have demonstrated strong service to their community (at Lyndhurst, high school or other)
- write a 500 word essay on their post secondary or entrepreneurial plan(s) and how community-based service has helped them to prepare for their future.
- provide a brief letter of support of this application from a teacher or school/community official

BCIT PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS SCHOLARSHIP
Going to BCIT? There are 2 scholarships available for Burnaby GRADS, valued at $3000 each.Students must be attending full time first year technology, technical studies, or a trade progam (not apprentice) and must have a BCIT student number. Applications available from Ms.Morabito and are due to her by APRIL 5.

BURNABY SPORTS HALL OF FAME SCHOLARSHIP
The Hall would like to encourage future excellence in athletics, academics and sportsmanship in Burnaby by offering a $1000 scholarship to a male athlete and female athlete. 
Eligibility requirements:
  • A resident of Burnaby for the past 3 years
  • Future plans to attend a post-secondary institution on a fulltime basis
  • Show evidence of high athletic ability and performance
  • Maintain a minimum of C+ average ( send copy of transcript)
  • Demonstrate Leadership
  • Be active in school and community
