The Burnaby Association of Senior Exempt Employees (BASES) has created the Chad Turpin Scholarship, to recognize the contributions to the City of Burnaby by former Deputy City Manager Chad Turpin. Two scholarships will be awarded annually to a well-rounded Burnaby student who meets the following criteria:
- been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work beyond that required for graduation; and
- demonstrated leadership in Burnaby through consistent and outstanding dedication to a community initiative or making their community a better place
- has an interest in public administration, public policy or public service e.g. politics, health care, teaching, policing etc.
$3500 Coast Capital Standing Tall Scholarship
- Awarded to students who are facing, or have faced, significant hardships e.g. poverty, health, family issues, personal loss and lack
- Risen up against the odds and demonstrated a commitment to continue their education at a Canadian university, college or technical school.
- Write an essay describing your story in 500 words or less
$1000 Interworld Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has successfully completed a Youth Train in Trades and Youth Work in Trades program in the Burnaby School District with a high level of effort, determination and integrity.
- successfully completed 120 hours industry-recognized work experience
- demonstrated a high level of motivation to continue to develop skills and abilities in the chosen profession
- demonstrated plans to continue in studies in the chosen field at post-secondary or apprenticeship training
- been nominated for the award by a Youth Train in Trades or Youth Work in Trades program teacher
- Consideration is to be given to a student with financial need.
$1000 Louella Downing Visual Arts Scholarship – DUE MAY 6TH to BTA Office
Is awarded to a student who has excelled in Visual Arts (Drawing, Painting, Textiles etc.)
Ted Elphick Memorial Bursary
- Maintain a good academic standing
- Demonstrated excellence in a minimum of two senior Visual Arts or Textiles courses
- Demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in Visual/Textile Arts
- Submit 8-10 photographs of original art work illustrating a range of subjects and media
Ted Elphick Memorial Bursary
- Candidate selected should be a Burnaby resident who has, through will and spirit, overcome physical or mental challenges to graduate from a Burnaby secondary school.
- Demonstrated ability and desire to be a life long learner and continue his or her education at a post secondary institution or in a recognized training program
Marlene Larson Scholarship
- Awarded to a Burnaby graduate who is blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind
- Be planning on enrolling in a post secondary program
- Demonstrate ability to set goals
- Be motivated, show responsibility and be oriented towards independence
$1000 Parkcrest Children’s Centre Scholarship
Is awarded to a student who has attended Parkcrest Children's Centre for at least one year and meets the following criteria:
- Completed Proof form
- Maintained a good academic standing
- Provide evidence of volunteer or work experience
- Participated and actively involved in school and community and/or volunteer activities
- Demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills
$500 Dr. & Mrs. A. H. Pontifex Scholarship
- Has maintained a good academic standing
- Has taken a concentration of, and excelled in, courses in the field of Science
- Has demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership in school and the community
- Has participated in community service and volunteer work in the community
- Has demonstrated a passion for, and interest in, pursuing a career in Science.
$250 Ricoh Office Solutions Scholarship
- Must be attending BCIT in the next 2 years (proof of registration required)
- Demonstrated good citizenship
- Actively involved in school service
- Maintained a good academic standing
- Consideration given to a student with financial need
Is awarded to one student at each of Burnaby's Secondary Schools and who meets the following criteria:
- Has maintained a good academic standing
- Has demonstrated good citizenship and STRONG leadership in school and the community
- Has participated in community service and volunteer work in the community
- Demonstrates financial need
$500 Marjorie Jane Stephenson - Education Scholarship
- Demonstrated community service assisting seniors (excluding Work Experience)
- You will need a verification of volunteer hours letter on letter head from the supervisor of the care facility where you volunteered . The letter must indicate the tasks completed and the total number of hours volunteered (NOT including Work Experience)
- Demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in Health Care
- Maintained a good academic standing
- Demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills in the school and community
- Currently enrolled in a visual or performing arts course in a Burnaby secondary school.
- Documentation to demonstrate your interest, dedication and aptitude in an arts or in multiple arts disciplines, e.g. dance, drama, music, visual art, theatre, script writing, stagecraft, directing, media arts.
- Evidence of your financial need and an explanation of why there are no other financial resources available to you.
- Demonstrated school and/or community involvement
- Your intent to pursue study at a post-secondary institution in an arts or arts-related area.
