$5000 Horatio Alger Jim Pattison British Columbia Scholarship

The Horatio Alger British Columbia Scholarship is awarded to full-time students in British Columbia with financial need who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as strength of character, a good academic record, a commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, and a desire to contribute to society.

The eligibility criteria:

• enrollment in their last year of high school and taking classes during spring 2016, progressing normally toward graduation in the spring/summer 2016, with plans to enter a post-secondary institution no later than the fall following graduation;
• a strong commitment to pursuing and completing a degree at an accredited public or private post-secondary institution in Canada;
• critical financial need ($50,000 or less net income per family is preferred; if higher, an explanation must be provided);
• involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
• a minimum grade percentage of 65
• attend a high school and live in British Columbia; and
• Canadian citizenship.

DEADLINE: October 25.

$50,000 University of Toronto National Scholarship

Scholarship covers tuition and fees for 4 years of study, and support for residence the first year and an additional renewable monetary award.

A high achiever in academic and creative pursuits

Enthusiastic about learning and intellectual exploration

$100,000 Loran Awards

There are over 30 Loran awards valued at up to $100,000 awarded across Canada. Potential candidates must exhibit :

• strong academic performance (85% average or better)
• Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
• excellent moral character and genuine commitment to serving others
• ability to manage and lead others
• determination and independent thinking
• a willingness to take meaningful risks.

SPONOSORSHIP DEADLINE: Print your application, place it in an envelope and submit to Ms. Morabito by October 5. Central's scholarship committee will choose 3 candidates to sponsor by October 16.

DIRECT POOL DEADLINE: Missed the sponsorship deadline? You can mail your applications to Toronto for the direct pool by October 28.

• REFERENCE LETTERS  -For the best reference letters please provide your references with 2 weeks notice and always use a Reference Letter Request Form. Pick up a few in room A233.
