$34,000 SFU Major Entrance Scholarship

Open to high school students who have applied for admission and have an average of 90% and above (or a minimum of 31 IB points) to apply to SFU's major award competition held once a year (for entry to the Fall term).

Canadian High School Students: In addition to including an official transcript with the application package, major entrance scholarship applicants should self-report their marks by February 28. If academic grade 12 teachers are unable to provide a mark by that date, students may use a final grade 11 mark in its place.

When applying for Entrance Scholarships, Entrance Awards and Entrance Bursaries, you are required to have all admissions documents in for evaluation by the specified scholarship deadline. Those students who are interviewed for a National Scholarship but not offered a scholarship and accepting offer of admission to main campus will receive a one-year National Merit Award valued at $2,000. Recipients will also retain eligibility for an Admission Scholarship ranging in value from $1,000 to $10,000.

Are you interested in Science,  Technology, Engineering or Math? Then this is the scholarship for you!!

CRITERIA:
  • The candidate must be intending to enroll in a program at a minimum of one of the 20 participating Canadian universities in the STEM areas of study (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) by March 1, 2013.

New Rules for Provincial Examinations Scholarships


As a result of the cancellation of optional provincial examinations, the Provincial Scholarship Program has been revised.

For students graduating on or after September 1, 2011, the following rules apply for the $1000 scholarship:

• Students must achieve at least a “B” (73% or above) final mark (provincial exam and school mark combined) in English 12.

• Students must achieve at least one “A” (86% or higher) and three “B”s (73% or higher) on four of his or her best provincial exams (can include the English 12 provincial exam).

• The examination rewrite rule will be relaxed for one year (September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012) to allow students to rewrite Grade 10 and 11 provincial exams to improve their exam result for the purposes of qualifying for a Provincial Examinations Scholarship under the new policy

The following will apply:
1. If a student has had two attempts, they may rewrite a their time to improve their result.
2. If a year has lapsed since the student’s last attempt, he or she may rewrite without retaking the course.

• AP and most IB scores will no longer count towards scholarship.

$1000 Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Society Scholarship

The Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Society is again offering two $1,000 scholarships to eligible candidates for this year.  The scholarships are open to this year's graduating secondary school students planning to enrol in a post-secondary academic degree program for the first time in 2012.  To be eligible for this scholarship candidates must:

1) be of Italian origin i.e. as having at least one parent or grandparent of direct Italian descent
2) be living in a city or municipality within the 21-member GVRD
3) have an academic standing sufficient to qualify for entry into the post-secondary institution of their choice

Interested in becoming an engineer? $1000 RE/MAX of Western Canada Quest for Excellence Bursary

The Quest for Excellence Program is a bursary program for grade 12 students in Western Canada. It was established by RE/MAX of Western Canada to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and community contribution initiatives. Each year, RE/MAX will award 16 bursaries of $1,000 each totaling $16,000 in Western Canada. Students are to convey the contributions they have made to their communities in a short online essay, maximum 1,250 words. Key qualities students should demonstrate are leadership, motivation and communication skills. Other attributes may include volunteering, participation in charitable events or fundraising, and contributions that enrich the lives of others and their communities.
