UP TO $100,000 SCHULICH LEADER SCHOLARSHIP

A Schulich Leader Nominee represents the top STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) student in your graduating class and in turn becomes eligible to win a $100,000 or $80,000 scholarship. This entrepreneurial-minded student exemplifies at least two of the following criteria: 

  • Academic Excellence = Exceptional grades
  • Demonstrated leadership  (community, business or entrepreneurial)
  • Financial need (planning to apply for financial assistance to attend university)
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • Graduate high school in the 2019/2020 academic year
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident 
  • Be entrepreneurial-minded 
  • Plan to enroll in STEM at one of our partner universities
  • Meet at least two of the following criteria: Academic excellence, Leadership (community, business or entrepreneurial), Financial need 
  • Not planning a career as a medical practitioner

Must be entrepreneurial minded, intending to pursue a career in:
  • Innovation
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Scientific Research
They are NOT looking for students pursuing careers in :
  • Medicine
  • Medical Research
Please submit the following in an envelope to Ms.Morabito:
  • Scholarship Profile (on school website)
  • Transcript
  • Two reference letters with at least one from an academic source and one from a community source.  Use the "Request for reference Letter" form to ask a teacher and a community member. Ensure you give them two weeks notice.

up to $1000 YOUTH LEADERSHIP AND YOUTH SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AWARD

The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) aims to recruit, promote, and retain girls and women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

SCWIST has several scholarships and awards for girls who are working on challenging STEM projects or taking courses/camps related to STEM fields. These projects can be the conventional science-fair like projects or something more social like starting a STEM club at their school. The value of each scholarship ranges from $100 to $1000.

$1000 BCSSA SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year, British Columbia School Superintendent 
Association issues a total of 6 scholarships of $1000 each to a graduating students. To be considered for a scholarship
you must be currently enrolled in their final year of studies at
a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected
to graduate in June 2020. One winner will be chosen from
each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters. In selecting the
recipients for this year’s awards, the scholarship committees
will consider demonstrated exemplary service and leadership
within the school and community.

$25000 STEAM HORIZON AWARD

Awarded to students who have inspiring achievements in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and math. These achievements could be formally recognized – a science fair win, a published app, a patented invention, etc. or they could be less formally recognized – the founding of a local coding club, developing a course for kids, or creating a local interactive art installation. Regardless of the accomplishment, it must reflect passion and illustrate a positive impact on the community.

To be eligible to apply, you must:
  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada by the application deadline;
  • be 16 to 18 years of age by the application deadline;
  • have been recognized for accomplishments in a formal capacity (e.g., selected as a winner or participant of a science fair, patent application, conference presentation) or less formal capacity (e.g., founding a coding club, developing a course for kids, creating an interactive art installation, volunteer work, community outreach);
  • have obtained, over the previous year of study, an academic average of 80% or higher;
  • be preparing to enroll in the fall of 2020 in your first year of post-secondary education (university, college or CÉGEP) in a STEAM field at a Canadian institution.
*Art and design fields will only be accepted if they are integrated in science and technology.

$5000 PATHWAY TO TEACHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment and aptitude for a career path in K-12 teaching. Winners receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher to redeem when they are registered and attending an approved K-12 teacher education program at one of BC’s nine Faculties of Education.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Meet basic eligibility requirements
  • Be eligible for a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma) and meet the requirements of the B.C. Graduation Program (2018) by August 31, 2020
  • Be graduating in the same year the scholarship is awarded
  • Have at least a"B" (73% or above) in your Language Arts 11 final mark 
  • "B" average in final course marks that fulfill graduation requirements of Science 11 or 12, Math 11 and Social Studies 11 or 12, with no more than one "C+" (67% or above) final course mark, (marks lower than “C+” are not accepted)
  • Maintain a “B” average or better in Grades 11 and 12 final course marks required for graduation

$5000 BC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

There are 55 BC Excellence Scholarships available to recognize well-rounded B.C. graduates. Winners will have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and shown aptitude and commitment to their chosen career paths. They will receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to use for post-secondary tuition.You must be nominated by your secondary school in order to apply for this scholarship. Only one student from each school may be nominated.  


    ELIGIBILITY:
    • Meet basic eligibility requirements

    1. Completed Scholarship Profile (found on scholarships link on the school website.
    2. Complete the Application. The application includes a written statement worth 60% overall, and the resume worth 40% overall.  It must be completed online in the mandatory format. (Scoring guides (PDF) are available for reference)
    3. Ask for two reference letters, one from a community organization to verify your volunteer hours in the community and one from your school to verify your volunteer contributions at school. 
    4. Request a Transcript from the office or print one from the Transcript Service
    Once you are nominated Ms.Morabito will confirm your nomination by having your school principal sign and date the BC Excellence Nomination Form. 



    $1500 BERRIDGE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

    For the past 12 summers, Berridge Programs has been welcoming students from around the world to the Chateau le Mont Epinguet in Normandy, France to live in community, develop their unique talents and experience another culture. Our programs offer the perfect blend of performing arts camp and travel abroad experience. Last year, we introduced a new offer to Canadian applicants to pay their tuition in Canadian dollars, a savings of over 25% off our program tuition. This resulted in some amazing talented young Canadian artists joining us last summer and we are keen to have more!

    We offer programs in both Acting and Film open to students age 14-19. Our programs are taught exclusively in English however there are plenty of opportunities for French speakers to practice their language skills both on the program and out in the wider community on field trips and excursions. You can read about our program at www.berridgeprograms.com.

    In addition, Canadian applicants are welcome to apply for our Scholarship Program to receive more financial assistance. We offer a Merit Scholarship in the amount of $1500 and our Financial Need Scholarship for up to 60% off the program tuition.

    $3000 PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS BCIT SCHOLARSHIP

    Are you planning to go to BCIT? Then don't miss out on the BCIT Pathway to Success
    Awards. This scholarship is for students planning to enter into a full-time first year
    (technology or technical) program.

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
    • You must have applied for admission to BCIT and have been assigned a BCIT ID
    • You must be a citizen or permanent residents of Canada
    • You must commence your BCIT full-time studies before March 31, 2020
    • A recipient must remain registered as a fulltime student during the academic period for which an award is given
    • A recipient must maintain satisfactory academic standing during the academic 
    period for which an award is given
    •Awards are not deferrable and must be accepted in the
     year in which they are 
    awarded.

    SELECTION CRITERIA
    The student must demonstrate leadership skills and/or additional responsibilities such as family. Examples are:
    • taken leadership training/courses
    • volunteer and/or community service
    • work experience
    • captain/president of sports team or group
    • Involvement in extracurricular activities
    • Play a major role in supporting their family, financially or otherwise.
    - Letter of recommendation from school district

    LETTER OF INTENT
    The student must write a letter of intent which outlines:
    • their career goals
    • why they have chosen that particular career
    • that they have a good understanding of the job and the skills required
    • why they want to be a BCIT student
    • outlines their leadership skills and/or additional responsibilities such as family.
