Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to grads and students currently pursuing a first university degree or diploma in a Canadian post-secondary institution. The Terry Fox Humanitarian award is valued at $28,000.
To be considered, applicants must meet be:
  • In good academic standing.
  • Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
  • Students who have already completed secondary (high) school OR are graduating from secondary (high) school in the coming year OR those completing their first year of CÉGEP
  • Involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated).
  • Planning to or already studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution

Adventures in Tourism - free trip and networking opportunity!

Are you interested in Tourism? Thinking of a career in the Tourism industry? Then don't miss out on this opportunity!

Sponsored by the Ogopogo Rotary Club of Kelowna, this exciting, educational experience will expose students to the inner workings of a variety of specific tourism-based industries and provide them with the opportunity to
  • gain a basic understanding of the Okanagan Valley tourism industry
  • acquire a basic understanding of small and large tourism business operations
  • complete a tourism team project and improve teamwork and communication skills
  • acquire a basic understanding of how to market tourism in a community and its impact on the economic development of a community
  • improve presentation skills
  • learn about a wide variety of tourism industries including golf, ski hill, wine industry, adventure, ecotourism, cultural, hotel and restaurant management.  Students will see the behind the scenes structure of many of the most popular tourism based industries from the Interior of BC.
Participants will have a unique opportunity to meet their peers from other parts of Canada.  Accommodation, meals and full supervision is provided through the Ogopogo Rotary Club of Kelowna. Interested candidates must be in Grade 12, a non-smoker, be high achieving, able to work as part of a team and have excellent potential to become community leaders.  Candidates must also be capable of walking on a trail for 1 hour.  As part of the application process students must complete the attached Statement of Interest and submit a character reference from a teacher.

Dates:             April 3 – April 8, 2016              travel will occur on April 2 & April 8
Location:        Kelowna, British Columbia

Registration fee and travel costs are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Burnaby.  Participants are billeted with hosts provided by the Ogopogo Rotary Club of Kelowna.  Personal expenses (gifts, souvenirs, sundry items) are the responsibility of the student.

Up to $70, 000 TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

Twenty TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are awarded to students in their last year of high school who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community. Each scholarship has a value of up to $70,000 and includes:

  • Up to $10,000 for tuition per year (for up to a maximum of four years)
  • $7,500 a year for living expenses (for up to a maximum of four years)

These scholarships also help you make connections that could last a lifetime, including:

  • Offers of paid summer employment
  • Mentorship opportunities

$5000 Horatio Alger Jim Pattison British Columbia Scholarship

The Horatio Alger British Columbia Scholarship is awarded to full-time students in British Columbia with financial need who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as strength of character, a good academic record, a commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, and a desire to contribute to society.

    $2500 Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC Scholarship

    The APEG Foundation offers several entry scholarships to British Columbia high school graduates entering engineering or earth science programs at the University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Institute of Technology and the University of Northern British Columbia. The entry scholarships are awarded on the basis of a combination of factors, including academic standing, extracurricular activities, financial need and a student statement.

    $1500 CONFRATELLANZA ITALO-CANADESE SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP

    The Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Society is again offering several $1,500 scholarships to eligible candidates for this year.  The scholarships are open to this year's graduating secondary school students planning to enrol in a post-secondary academic degree program.  To be eligible for this scholarship candidates must:

    1) be of Italian origin i.e. as having at least one parent or grandparent of direct Italian descent

    The Crisis Centre is offering two scholarships worth $1000 each to Grade 12’s – one of for leadership and community service; the other is for athletes who have been involved in promoting “your personal mental wellness and/or that of your sports team, or community.” Examples of this could be visiting a mental health professional, encouraging peers to reach out when in need, involving oneself in emotionally-sustaining community activities, supporting anti-stigma efforts, forming LGBTQ alliances, or attending community events mandated to promote mental wellness.

    The RBC Aboriginal Student Awards Program was launched in 1992 to assist Aboriginal students to complete post-secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC to strengthen its relationship with the Aboriginal community. Selected students are awarded up to $4,000 each academic year for two to four years to use towards tuition, textbooks, supplies and living expenses.
    RBC awards 10 scholarships in two categories:
    • For students majoring in disciplines related to the financial services industry
    • For students majoring in disciplines unrelated to the financial services industry
    We also consider scholarship recipients who are interested in careers in financial services for summer and post-graduate employment

    up to $48,000 MCMASTER ENGINEERING ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

    Hatch Scholarships 
    These scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement, community contribution and leadership experience. The Hatch Scholarships are awarded annually to students entering Engineering I at McMaster University. Renewable for three years at the same value provided the student remains registered full-time and achieves a minimum sessional average of 9.5 with no failures.

    Eligibility & Selection Criteria

    The Hatch Scholarships are provided exclusively to students qualifying for admission to the Engineering I program with a minimum admissions average of 95%.

    Dean's Excellence Entrance Scholarships 
    These scholarships will be awarded based on:
    • an average of at least 95%
    • demonstration of leadership experience and attributes
    • involvement in extra-curricular or volunteer activities in the community and
    •  two letters of reference.
    Up to one hundred (100) summer research awards for full-time positions will be available to undergraduate students applying for the Dean's Excellence Entrance Scholarships for the summer of 2016.

    Eligible candidates must be entering one of Engineering I, Computer Science I, or Bachelor of Technology I at McMaster with a minimum admissions average of 95%.The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the candidate’s application submission and interview performance.

    Dalhousie strives to recognize the academic, extra-curricular, and leadership achievements of students. Dalhousie offers entrance scholarships to close to 60% of first year students, and special scholarship for students with disabilities and entering specific fields of study.

    $1500 NATIONAL UNION OF PUBLIC & GENERAL EMPLOYEES SCHOLARSHIPS

    Each year, the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) offers four scholarships ($1500 each) to the children, grandchildren or foster children of the National Union’s 340,000 members who are starting a post-secondary education.


    The Tommy Douglas Scholarship for $1,500 is open to all students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2015 - 2016 and who are the children, grandchildren or foster children of a NUPGE member.

    HOW TO WIN A SCHOLARSHIP!


    GRADS of 2015, have you started applying for scholarships and bursaries? 

    Getting a scholarship for post secondary education is possible. It is up to you to take the initiative and to go get them! There is a scholarship out there for everyone  and everything. In Canada alone there are over 30,000 scholarships and 80% of them are NOT based on grades. There are scholarships for Athletics, Art, Applied skills, Trades and Technical skills, Creativity and more. You have nothing to lose and only FREE money to GAIN! Be proactive and start researching today! 

    Where to begin:

    • Check the websites of post secondary schools that you will be applying to (check the links to the right of this blog)
    • Check to see if you or your parent's place of employment offers a scholarship e.g unions, banks etc.
    • Check to see if the organizations and clubs your family is involved with offer a scholarship e.g Girl Guides, Ethnic Clubs
    • Apply Apply Apply
      Don't have time? Think about how many hours you would have to work at your part time job to earn $500, $1000, $5000. Why not invest a few hours into your application and win a scholarship? Once you get started with one application you have already done the work required to complete others.

      Do you plan to go into the Arts? Do you have financial need? Then this is the scholarship for you!

      AWARD CRITERIA:
      Your letter of application must include the following information:

      Confirmation that you are currently enrolled in a visual or performing arts course in a
        Burnaby secondary school.
      • Documentation to demonstrate your interest, dedication and aptitude in an arts or in
       multiple arts disciplines, e.g. dance, drama, music, visual art, theatre, script writing,
       stagecraft, directing, media arts.
      • Evidence of your financial need and an explanation of why there are no other financial
       resources available to you.
      • A history of your school and/or community involvement (i.e. school productions, student
      government, choir member, volunteer work, charity work, service clubs).
      • A copy of your secondary school transcript to demonstrate that your grades are high
      enough for acceptance to a post-secondary educational institution.
      • A statement that indicates your desired post-secondary Degree or Certificate in an Arts
      discipline and your Career Goal
