Ever dreamed about being a reporter? Or, chasing a story and broadcasting it on TV, radio, online or in print? Well, here’s your chance! News Day in BC is back for a fifth year and it’s better than ever. You might even see your story on CBC News Network. The project is open to all high school students from grades 10-12 from across Metro Vancouver. You can meet CBC and Vancouver Sun personalities, learn more about the exciting world of journalism and find out how to be a News Day student reporter. After the workshop, come back and audition for a spot on this year’s News Day team. Pitch your story to compete for one of this year’s coveted spots. Find out if you have what it takes to make it to the Final 30. ADVENTURES IN FORESTRY opportunity for GRADS!


This exciting, educational experience will provide students with an opportunity to explore the many facets of the forest and environmental industries.  Students will gain an understanding of the wide range of career opportunities available in the forest and environmental industries. 

Not only are participants able to work side by side with and ask questions of:  mill staff, tree planters, nursery staff and forest fire personnel, students participate in a variety of tours and learn about related post secondary programs at UNBC and College of New Caledonia.  Accommodation, meals and full supervision is provided. 

Interested candidates must be in Grade 12, a non-smokers, be high achieving, able to work as part of a team and have excellent potential to become community leaders.  As part of the application process students must complete a Statement of Interest and submit a character reference from a teacher. $5000 Top 20 Under 20 Scholarship



The Top 20 under 20 provides 20 awards. Each winner will receive:
  • Recognition as a Top 20 Under 20™ winner through various media outlets. 
  • All expense paid trip to Toronto for the Top 20 Under 20™ ceremony.
  • Leadership development through a unique 4-day leadership summit, where award recipients will have the opportunity to meet with prominent business leaders in various sectors of the Canadian economy. 
  • Access to a mentor sourced by Youth in Motion. 
  • Career Coaching courtesy of  Right Management.  Youth in Motion, in partnership with Right Management Inc. will be providing to each award recipient, one-on-one career coaching program.
  • Exclusive access to Youth in Motion's monthly Speaker Series with leaders from various sectors and industries.
    CRITERIA: 
    • has demonstrated significant leadership, innovation and achievement
    •  has gone beyond to make the world a better place.
    • A young person who has demonstrated significant amounts of Innovation, Leadership and Achievements in their life, school, community, province or country
       
    • Canadian citizenship or permanent residence status
       
    • Desire to pursue some form of education or training, whether that be Canadian secondary, post-secondary or training education (high school or equivalent, CEGEP, GED, college, university, training or apprenticeship programs)
       
    • All nominations must include a letter of endorsement by a sponsor. The sponsor must speak to the applicant's role and innovative project.

    $3000 Miller Thomson Foundation Scholarship

    The Miller Thomson Foundation annually awards scholarhsips of $3000 to 100 recipients. The purpose of the foundation is to encourage and promote the attainment of higher education gaolas for individuals who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement, have made a positve contribution to their school through extracurricular activities and have made a significant contribution of time and energy to community service programs.

    CRITERIA:

    • 87% overall grade average
    • be attending post-secondary in the fall of 2013 
    • be pursuing a course of study leading to a degree or diploma from an accredited community college or university.
    • be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
