This scholarship is open to a student graduating from a Burnaby secondary school. You must be a Canadian citizen or Landed Immigrant.


AWARD CRITERIA:


Your letter of application must include the following information:


• Confirmation that you are currently enrolled in a visual or performing arts course in a
  Burnaby secondary school.
• Documentation to demonstrate your interest, dedication and aptitude in an arts or in
 multiple arts disciplines, e.g. dance, drama, music, visual art, theatre, script writing,
 stagecraft, directing, media arts.
• Evidence of your financial need and an explanation of why there are no other financial
 resources available to you.
• A history of your school and/or community involvement (i.e. school productions, student
government, choir member, volunteer work, charity work, service clubs).
• A copy of your secondary school transcript to demonstrate that your grades are high
enough for acceptance to a post-secondary educational institution.
• A statement that indicates your desired post-secondary Degree or Certificate in an Arts
discipline and your Career Goal

INDO CANADIAN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION OF BC SCHOLARSHIP

ICBABC’s Annual Student Achievement Awards are open to all students graduating from a BC high school. The Awards support outstanding students as they further pursue their academic endeavours within a post-secondary institution. 

The vision of the awards program is to invest in and develop strong leaders who demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement, a moral force of character, instincts to lead, and commitment to intellectual and personal development. Scholarships are available in the following three categories: Academic, Sports, and Special Needs. 

There are two ways applicants can submit their applications:

$1000 Jamaican Canadian Cultural Association of BC Scholarship

JCCABC has established an annual $1,000.00 Scholarship, to reward a worthy British Columbia graduating student with an opportunity to assist in the pursuit of their academic dreams. 

AWARD CRITERIA 

1. The applicant must be Jamaican born or of Jamaican descent (parent(s) or grandparent(s)); 
2. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada; 
3. The applicant must submit an essay 
4. The applicant must provide an up-to-date official transcript of grades, with a minimum GPA of 3.0; 
5. The recipient of the award must be a graduating Grade 12 student, residing in British Columbia; 
6. The recipient must provide proof of acceptance or entry at a post-secondary institution

$1000 COMMUNITY MENTAL WELLNESS ASSOCIATION BURSARY


Community Mental Wellness Association of Canada is proud to announce the launch of two (2) x $1,000 bursaries to Grade 12 students going into full time studies in the Health Sciences field, Trade school or Business colleges.
CRITERIA:
·         Students must be graduating from Grade 12.
·         A copy of the latest report card is required
·         The student must have a strong interest and be going into the Health Sciences field such as Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Mental Health, Counselling in the Mental Health arena
·         Include a resume of school/community participation in Health-related activities and volunteering.
·         Provide a letter from their school counsellor that reflects how the applicant models socially responsible behaviour.
·         Consideration will be given to students who may suffer from financial hardship.
·         The winners will be required to come to a presentation of the bursary at a fundraising event.


Applications should include:
·         The essay should contain 500-700 words.  Entries may be typed.
·         The topic will be “Is There a Connection between Mental Health and Peer Pressure? OR b) What is Mental Health?
·         A paragraph about their hobbies, social activities and volunteer opportunities.

$3000 BCIT PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS AWARD

Are you planning to go to BCIT? Then don't miss out on the BCIT Pathway to Success
Awards. This scholarship is for students planning to enter into a full-time first year
(technology or technical) program.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• You must have applied for admission to BCIT and have been assigned a BCIT ID
• You must be a citizen or permanent residents of Canada
• You must commence your BCIT full-time studies before March 31, 2019
• A recipient must remain registered as a fulltime student during the academic period for which an award is given
• A recipient must maintain satisfactory academic standing during the academic 
period for which an award is given
•Awards are not deferrable and must be accepted in the
 year in which they are 
awarded.

SELECTION CRITERIA
The student must demonstrate leadership skills and/or additional responsibilities such as family. Examples are:
• taken leadership training/courses
• volunteer and/or community service
• work experience
• captain/president of sports team or group
• Involvement in extracurricular activities
• Play a major role in supporting their family, financially or otherwise.
- Letter of recommendation from school district

LETTER OF INTENT
The student must write a letter of intent which outlines:
• their career goals
• why they have chosen that particular career
• that they have a good understanding of the job and the skills required
• why they want to be a BCIT student
• outlines their leadership skills and/or additional responsibilities such as family.

$500 B.C.-CHINA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN CHINESE

British Columbia’s Ministry of Education is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the B.C.-China Award for Excellence in Chinese. The award promotes the study of Chinese language and cultural by B.C. students developing their intercultural awareness and skills.

The B.C.-China Award for Excellence in Chinese is a collaborative scholarship program offering up to fifty (50) $500 Awards for B.C. students studying Chinese. Each Award is jointly funded by the BC Ministry of Education ($250) and the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver ($250).

Applicants must:
•    Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
•    Ordinarily reside in British Columbia
•    Be school-age (not older than 19 years of age by June 30, 2018)
•    Be enrolled as a full-time Grade 12 student at a public or independent school in British Columbia
•    Have completed a Mandarin Chinese language course at the Grade 11 level in British Columbia with a minimum course grade of 86 % – course completion attained through challenge, equivalency or other course credit is not eligible
•    Be enrolled in or have completed a Mandarin Chinese language course at the Grade 12 level
•    Have attained a grade of 73% and above in all completed Grade 11 courses
BCCIE is a proud partner in the administration of this award and will be receiving and evaluating award applications and distributing awards to successful applicants.

$35,000 CMOLIK FOUNDATION AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS

The Cmolik Foundation awards scholarships to deserving BC students who have demonstrated good work ethic, tenacity and other commendable attributes in achieving their academic and social goals and who, without our support, may not have the means to attend a post secondary institution.  We look for students that have faced adversity, but through hard work and determination have been successful in achieving their goals.  Applicants must have been residents of BC for the past 7 years.

The Foundation will reimburse up to $35,000 for books and tuition leading to an undergraduate degree.  The maximum duration for funding is 5 consecutive years from the start of the student's initial semester.  Reimbursements are paid in instalments throughout the duration of the program provided the students meet the Foundation's scholarship criteria.

International Student Ambassador Scholarships

British Columbia’s Ministry of Education is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the International Student Ambassador Scholarships. International students from multiple countries are eligible to be nominated.

Further Information for Group 3 Applicants
• Definition: Countries that are not traditionally strong sources of international students studying in BC, or countries in which district-to-district or school-to-school relationships are less common
• Purpose: Engaging with these countries contributes to diversity for international education programs, fosters new relationships for BC school districts and independent schools, and increases opportunities for BC students to develop their intercultural skills
• Process: Nominations for Student Ambassador Scholarship for K-12 Entry under the “other” category are required to provide a one (1) paragraph justification for how the country aligns with the intended purpose (above). Supporting documents should be attached to submitted nominations.

Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship must be currently enrolled in their fnal year of studies at a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected to graduate in June 2018. One winner will be chosen from each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters. Each winner will be awarded a $1000 scholarship.

 In selecting the recipients for this year’s awards, the scholarship committees will consider academic achievement, as indicated on each applicant’s school transcript of grades, and demonstrated exemplary service and leadership within the school and community. $5000 Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship

Are you planning to pursue a career in teaching? Then this is the scholarship for you! The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment and aptitude for a career path in K-12 teaching. Winners receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to redeem when they are registered and attending an approved K-12 teacher education program at one of BC’s nine Faculties of Education.


Application

  • Complete the application package (PDF), including the written statement worth 60% overall, and the resume worth 40% overall. 
  • It must be completed online using the mandatory format, printed, signed, and submitted by mail. 
  • Scoring guides (PDF) are available for reference. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Eligibility

You must:
  • Meet basic eligibility requirements
  • Be in your graduation year with graduation to occur by August 31 of the school year in which you apply
  • Be eligible for a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma) and fulfill graduation requirements of the 2004 Graduation Program by August 31, 2018
  • Have at least a: "B" (73% or above) in your Language Arts 11 final mark 
  • "B" average in final course marks that fulfill graduation requirements of Science 11 or 12, Math 11 and Social Studies 11 or 12, with no more than one "C+" (67% or above) final course mark, (marks lower than “C+” are not accepted)
  • Maintain a “B” average or better in Grades 11 and 12 final course marks required for graduation
  • Write and pass a Language Arts 12 provincial examination

Winners must redeem their vouchers within 7 years of their high school graduation. The expiry dates are shown on the vouchers. When redeeming, winners must provide a letter from their Faculty of Education confirming their enrolment in the K-12 teacher education program.
Schools will be notified in June if there is a conditional winner from their school. Winners will be notified directly in September when eligibility is confirmed.

$250.00 Seaforth Elementary Parent Advisory Council Scholarship

With the spirit of citizenship at heart, the Seaforth scholarship is more community based than academic focused. While a respectable grade point average is expected, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate how they provide leadership to younger members of the community as well as partnership with elder members in the same community. The student will demonstrate that a true leader guides those who need to know, while, at the same time, learns the value in the ability to follow and learn from others. 

In a 500 word essay the eligible students must demonstrate how they have exemplified these qualities. While we encourage all to apply, we are looking for students that have gone outside of the home or classroom to make a difference in the community and make this community a better place to live. 

Please include a brief letter of support for this scholarship from a teacher or a school/community official.

$1000 Overwaitea Food Group & UFCW Local 1518 Joint Diversity Scholarship

The Overwaitea Food Group has partnered with UFCW Local 1518 to bring 10 scholarships of $1000 to students who have played a big part in bringing in diversity initiatives in their school and community. Our goal is to work collaboratively to promote diversity awareness and build strong, healthy and mutually beneficial relationships within the diverse communities that we serve. 
Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who have promoted diversity awareness and acceptance in their community. Some examples of activities include: 
  • Participating in clubs that promote cooperation between cultures.
  • Volunteering with organizations to assist persons with disabilities.
  • Assisting programs that support seniors.
  • Helping new Canadians learn about their neighborhood.
  • Fundraising to support diversity awareness (e.g., cultural awareness, homelessness, elder care, etc.).
Eligibility: 
  • This scholarship is available to students who are BC residents and are going to be pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited institution within the province of BC in the fall of 2018.
  • Applicants are asked to demonstrate how they promote diversity awareness and acceptance in their community.
