17 BURNABY SCHOOL DISTRICT BURSARIES/SCHOLARSHIPS!!

p Elinor Brown Scholarship
  • Demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in teaching
  • Demonstrated a love of English through chosen related course in secondary school
  • Maintained a good academic standing
  • Must provide proof of registration in post secondary program
p Burnaby Arts Council Scholarship
  • Demonstrated excellence and achievement in the arts (performing, visual or literary) in school curricular and extra-curricular programs and the motivation to develop your ability
  • Additional consideration will be given for community involvement
  • Must provide proof of registration in post-secondary Fine Arts program
  • Consideration may be given to students with financial need
p Burnaby Civic Employee’s – CUPE Local 23 Scholarship
  • Must be attending a BC post-secondary or vocational school
  • Maintained a good academic standing
  • Demonstrated good citizenship in school and the community
  • Participated in volunteer activities
  • Consideration will be given to a student with Financial Need
p Burnaby South War Memorial Honour Roll Bursary
·                 In memory of young Burnaby citizens who fought for Canada in World War II
·                 Canadian citizen planning to attend and have been accepted to a Canadian post-secondary institution
·                 Continually demonstrated the values associated with good citizenship e.g. Caring, sharing,    
          responsibility and a willingness to help others
·                 Significant contribution to both school and community
·                 Good academic standing
·                 Demonstrate financial need in a written statement

  p   Burnaby DPAC Community Service Award
·                 Must complete the DPAC service award application (see Ms.Morabito for one)
·                 Demonstrates high level of involvement and recognizes the importance of community 
               responsibility & service
·                 Be a Burnaby resident and have attended a Burnaby public Secondary School.
·                 Be planning to pursue post secondary studies (academic, technical, vocational or other career
          training).

p Louella Downing Visual Arts Scholarship - BTA
  • Maintain a good academic standing
  • Demonstrated excellence in a minimum of two senior Visual Arts courses
  • Demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in Visual Arts
  • Must formally submit an application to the Burnaby Teachers Association
  • Submit 8-10 photographs of original art work illustrating a range of subjects and media
p Ted Elphick Memorial Bursary
  • Candidate selected should be a Burnaby resident who has, through will and spirit, overcome physical or mental challenges to graduate from a Burnaby secondary school.  (Staff may also put names forward.)
  • Must have been enrolled in a Burnaby school for five years.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to be a life long learner and continue his or her education at a post secondary institution or in a recognized training program
p     Lex Henderson Memorial Bursary
·         Passionate about sports and committed to the spirit of “teamwork”
·         Has been involved in school and/or community sports as a player, manager or other contributing role e.g. Referee
·         Has demonstrated a positive influence in school and/or community through dedication & hard work
·         Exemplify strong character demonstrating personal responsibility and respect for others
·         Demonstrated plans to continue with education in a post secondary  program
·         Priority given to students who have financial need

p    IKON
·         Must be attending BCIT in September 2011 (proof of registration required)
·         Demonstrated good citizenship
·         Actively involved ins school service
·         Maintained a good academic standing
·         Consideration will be given to a student with financial need

p   Marlene Larson Scholarship
·       Awarded to a Burnaby graduate who is blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind
·        Be planning on enrolling in a post secondary program
·        Demonstrate ability to set goals
·        Be motivated, show responsibility and be oriented towards independence

p Richard T. Lee, MLA, Scholarship
·         Interested in pursuing a career in public administration e.g. Public servants working in public
            departments/agencies, at all levels of government ( government positions, police officers etc.)
·         maintained a good academic standing
·         demonstrated good citizenship in school and the community
·         participated in community service and volunteer work in the community
·         Be planning on enrolling in a post secondary program

p  Metropolis at Metrotown Scholarship
·         Must be currently employed in a part-time job
·         Must fill in Employment Confirmation form (obtain from scholarship advisor)
·         A cover letter indicating “Why I am an appropriate candidate for this scholarship”
·         Must have been enrolled in a Burnaby School for 2 senior years
·         Been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work
·         Demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills
·         Maintained a good academic standing

p  Parkcrest Children’s Centre Scholarship
·         Must have attended Parkcrest Children's Centre for at least one year
·         Maintained a good academic standing
·         Provide evidence of volunteer or work experience
·         Participated and actively involved in school and community and/or volunteer activities
·         Enrolled in Burnaby School for 2 years
·         Demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills

p Royal Arch Masonic Home Education Scholarship
·         For a well-rounded student who seeks a career in Health Care
·         Demonstrated community service assisting older adults
  • One of your reference letters will need to be from the supervisor of the care facility where you volunteered
  • Enrolled in a Burnaby school for 2 senior years
  • Maintained a good academic standing
  • Demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills in the school and the community (excluding work experience)
Marjorie Jane Stephenson - Education Scholarship
·         In memory of Marjorie J. Stephenson who benefited from the caring work of Burnaby school
      volunteers while residing at the Royal Arch Masonic Home.
·         Demonstrated community service assisting older adults
·         One of your reference letters will need to be from the supervisor of the care facility where you volunteered
·         Demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in Health Care
  • Enrolled in a Burnaby school for 2 senior years
  • Maintained a good academic standing
  • Demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills in the school and community
p    Vancouver Port Corporation Scholarship
·         Maintained a good academic standing
·         Demonstrated good citizenship in the school and community
·         Been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work

p    RCMP  (Not yet confirmed)
·         Been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two senior years
·         Maintained a good academic standing
·         Plan on enrolling in a BC post-secondary institution
