20 DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIPS APPLICATIONS #1

There are 20 District scholarships that award financial need, overcoming obstacles, athletics, academics, visual/performing arts, and volunteering. All District Scholarships are DUE by 9:00am on MARCH 7 to Ms.Morabito in room A233

The following application requirements must be submitted to apply for district scholarships:

1) TYPED Scholarship Profile (link found on Scholarship link on Central's website)

2) Copy of a recent Transcript (does not need to be official. No envelopes please)   

3) Financial Need letter explaining your need for financial assistance or personal Essay  (if criteria requires)

3) Cover letter indicating which district scholarship(s) you are applying for and stating 
    specific details and examples explaining why you are the best candidate.

4) Two reference letters from community organizations and/or team/club sponsors.  
    
This is a crucial part of your application. Give this REFERENCE LETTER REQUEST
FORM to the adults writing your letters. Volunteer activities must be verified in the form of letter (hours acquired for Work Experience do not count as volunteer hours) These letters must state:
  • number of service or volunteer hours
  • brief description of activities you participated in 
  • the duration (start and end dates of your involvement)
  • description of or your work ethic, character  and leadership skills (if criteria requires)

DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIPS:

$1000 Burnaby Association of Senior Exempt Employees (BASES) Scholarship

The BASES scholarship is awarded annually to a well-rounded Burnaby student who meets the following criteria:
  • ·maintained a good academic standing
  • been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work beyond that required for graduation
  • demonstrated leadership in Burnaby through consistent and outstanding dedication to a community initiative or making their community a better place.
  • Consideration is to be given to a student with financial need.
$250 Burnaby Arts Council Scholarship
The Burnaby Arts Council is offering a scholarship to a graduating student in each of Burnaby’s eight secondary schools. Applicants must:
  • demonstrate excellence and achievement in the arts (performing, visual or literary) in school curricular and extra-curricular programs and the motivation to develop their ability. Additional consideration will be given for community involvement.
  • exhibit a good academic record with letters of commendation.
  • be continuing with their education in a full-time accredited post-secondary program, with a concentration in the arts, leading to a professional status in theatre, dance, visual arts, creative writing or music. 
  • consideration may be given to students with financial need
$500 Burnaby Artist Guild Scholarship
The Burnaby Arts Guild is offering a scholarship to a graduating student in each of Burnaby’s eight secondary schools. Applicants must be:
  • a well-rounded student who has demonstrated a passion for visual arts: drawing, painting, sculpture, and or animation
  • demonstrated having a positive influence in the school or community through community service or volunteer work and through dedication and hard work
  • exemplify good citizenship and strong character and demonstrating personal responsibility and respect for others
  • maintained a good academic standing
  • plans to continue with education in a post–secondary program
  • demonstrate evidence through a portfolio of work for visual arts
$500 Burnaby Civic Employee’s – CUPE Local 23 Scholarship
  •  Must be attending a BC post-secondary or vocational school
  •  Maintained a good academic standing
  •  Demonstrated good citizenship in school and the community
  •  Participated in volunteer activities
Burnaby South War Memorial Bursary
The Burnaby South War Memorial bursaries are awarded to two deserving Burnaby grads who have continually demonstrated the values associated with good citizenship - caring, sharing, responsibility and a willingness to help others.Applicants must:
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Have the desire to continue his/her education at a post-secondary institution in Canada
  • Must demonstrate good citizenship, sharing and responsibility, and a willingness to help others
  • Must demonstrate Financial need
  • Maintained a good academic standing;
$3000 BCIT Pathway To Success Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a Burnaby student who is planning to enter into a full-time first year technology, technical studies or trade program (excluding Apprentice) at BCIT
  • Must have applied for admission to BCIT and have been assigned a BCIT ID 
  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada 
  • Must commence your BCIT full-time studies before March 31, 2021 
  • Must demonstrate leadership skills and/or additional responsibilities such as: family taken leadership training/courses, volunteer and/or community service or work experience, captain/president of sports team or group, involvement in extracurricular activities,play a major role in supporting their family, financially or otherwise.
